Dress Code Laws

There are Laws given by God to the children of Israel concerning attire (clothing). The Most High has specified in detail what the Israelites are permitted to wear.  He also gave an adornment to be added to the clothing to distinguish them as his people.

The first step for making clothes is picking out the material that it was going to be made of.  In making garments the Israelites are instructed by the law to be pure. Deuteronomy 22:11 “Thou shalt not wear a garment of diverse sorts, as of woollen and linen together.” It is against the Laws of the Most High for any Israelite to wear garments consisting of mixed fabrics.  The example that the law provides is any article of clothes interwoven (made) with wool and linen together.  When you go to purchase clothes the tag inside tells you what the material is.  Using the example of the law, if it was to say 50% wool and 50% linen the law of the most High forbids wearing it, therefore do not purchase it.  All garments must be made of pure materials such as 100% cotton, 100% wool, 100% polyester, etc.  See, Leviticus 19:19[א] .

When choosing clothes to wear we are instructed to put on what belongs to your gender.  Deuteronomy 22:5 “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth [belongs] unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” Men and Women are forbidden also to wear clothing which pertains to the opposite sex.  The term for this is cross dressing or transvestite, this abomination is usually committed by those that are in the sin of homosexuality.  Yet this sin is not only exclusive to homosexuals; those that are in whoredom also commit this sin.  Deuteronomy 23:17 “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.” Men are not to dress in women’s clothing such as dresses, panties, bras, heels, blouses, and etcetera.  Or women in clothes that belong to men such as pants, boxers, shirts, shoes, and etcetera.  The scriptures give us descriptions of what men and women wore:

Men’s attire: Exodus 28:42 “And thou shalt make them linen breeches [trousers/pants] to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:” Verse 43: “And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.” One of the many examples of what men are to wear is described in the garments of the priests that covered their loins (mid section) to their thighs.  The word breeches mean pants which were exclusively invented by the most High for the men especially the priests to cover their nakedness.  See, Exodus 20:26 [ב] .

Women’s attire: Notice that the law used the word “woman’s garment” for her clothing whereas for the man it said what “pertaineth”. A dress is a woman’s garment which immediately it’s identified to be for the woman.  2nd Samuel 13:18 “And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.” The definition of a robe is a loose flowing gown/dress.

To both, men and women the most High God gave an adornment to separate them as the people that he gave his laws to.  Numbers 15:37 “And the Lord spake unto Moses saying,” Verse 38: “Speak unto the children of Israel and bid them that they make themselves fringes in the borders [bottom /hem] of their garments throughout their generations [forever], and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband [ribbon used to hold in place the fringes] of blue:” Verse 39: “And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes [unlawful desires], after which ye use to go a whoring:” Verse 40: ” That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.”

Fringes and ribband of blue is not only for “street teaching” or “priestly” garments.  But it’s to be put on our everyday clothes.  Above you have an example  being held up by a young boy.

Above a long sleeve shirt the fringes were sewn unto this shirt with the border or blue. Below a wool Poncho which came already with the fringes.  Ribband of blue put on by sewing.

The fringes with ribband of blue could be easily put on the hem of your clothes.  For example, shirts, vests, suits, sweaters, blouses, skirts, dresses, etc…

Romans 2:28 “For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:” Verse 29: “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly [1st Peter 3:3-4 and 2nd Corinthians 4:16 [ג] ]; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit [in your heart remembering the laws], and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” This scripture is teaching us to not only be concerned with the outward appearance but with the inner man/woman.  Because wearing fringes alone with an evil heart does not make a true Israelite.

In the past Israelites dressed according to the Law, but had an evil heart of unbelief and hypocrisy.  Matthews 23:5 “But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments [put on fringes only to be seen but were not true believers],” However, they were admonished in Christ to obey the Laws of God in sincerity and love in their minds as well.  If your mind is wicked regardless how you are dressed anyone will be able to see your hypocrisy as it was done with the Pharisees.  James 1:22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Verse 23: “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:” Verse 24: “For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.”

The Heavenly Father taught us to keep our minds on his laws and to remember to do all his ways.  Numbers 15:39 “And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes [your own evil thoughts], after which ye use to go a whoring:” Any man or woman is going a whoring if they do not dress according to Heavenly Father.  The Judgment has already been proclaimed for those that decide not to keep his commandments.  Psalms 73:27 “For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.” Shalam!
